Thirty years ago this week, Our lips are sealed by Fun Boy Three reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 31 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 9 for a final week in the top 10 and then spent the last three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.

Our lips are sealed was released on the Chrysalis record label and was the last of four UK top 10 hits for Fun Boy Three. It was taken from the silver-selling album Waiting, which peaked at number 14 in the UK album chart.

The song was written by Fun Boy Three’s Terry Hall, while he was still with the Specials, and Jane Wiedlin of the Go-go’s. The Go-go’s recorded the first version of Our lips are sealed but it failed to enter the UK top 40, peaking at number 47 in 1982.
