Forty years ago this week, My boy by Elvis Presley reached its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 seven weeks previously at number 40 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song dropped out of the top 10 and spent the final four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.

My boy was released on the RCA record label and was the fiftieth top 10 hit for Elvis Presley in the UK. It was taken from the album Good times, which failed to enter the UK album top 40, peaking at number 42. The single was certified silver.
