This week in 2003, I just don’t know what to do with myself by the White Stripes entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 13. After one week at its peak position, the song spent two more weeks in the top 40 and then left the chart.
I just don’t know what to do with myself was released on the XL Recordings record label and was the fifth of thirteen top 40 hits for the White Stripes in the UK. It was taken from the double-platinum-selling album Elephant, which spent two weeks at the top of the UK albums chart.
The original version of the song was recorded by Tommy Hunt in 1962 but it did not enter the UK chart. But a cover version by Dusty Springfield did enter the chart two years later, in 1964, peaking at number 3.
