Twenty years ago this week, It keeps rainin’ (tears from my eyes) by Bitty McLean was at its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart for the first of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 five weeks previously at number 31 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After falling from its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks and then spent the last three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
It keeps rainin’ (tears from my eyes) was released on the Brilliant record label and was the first of three UK top 10 hits for Bitty McLean. It was included on the gold-selling album Just to let you know…, which peaked at number 19 in the UK albums chart in 1994. The single was certified silver.
The original version of the song was recorded by Fats Domino in 1961. Domino’s version, known by the shorter title of It keeps rainin’, failed to enter the UK top 40, peaking at number 49.
