Forty years ago this week, My love by Paul McCartney and Wings was at its highest position of number 9 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks, although it had spent one week at number 12 in between. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 25. After its second week at its peak position, the song dropped into the lower top 40 for the final four weeks of its chart life.
My love was released on the Apple record label and was the second UK top 10 hit for Paul McCartney and the third for Wings. It was taken from the gold-selling album Red rose speedway, which peaked at number 5 in the UK album chart. Both the single and the album went to the top of the US charts.
