Twenty years ago this week, Crush with eyeliner by REM reached its highest position of number 23 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 29. After one week at its peak position, the song left the top 40.

Crush with eyeliner was released on the Warner Brothers record label and was the fifteenth of thirty-one top 40 hits for REM in the UK. It was taken from the triple-platinum-selling album Monster, which spent two weeks at the top of the UK albums chart and was also a US number 1.
