This week in 1995, Total eclipse of the heart by Nicki French was at its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart for the second of three weeks. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 12 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After falling from its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for one more week, at number 8, and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final three weeks of its chart life.

Total eclipse of the heart was released on the Bags Of Fun record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for Nicki French. It was taken from the album Secrets, which did not enter the UK albums chart. The single was certified silver.

The original version of the song was recorded by Bonnie Tyler in 1983 when it spent two weeks at the top of the UK chart and was also a US number 1. In 2003, a version by Jan Wayne reached number 28.
