Twenty years ago this week, We’ve got tonight by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band reached its highest position of number 22 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 32. After two weeks at its peak position, the song fell to number 31 for a final week in the top 40.
We’ve got tonight was released on the Capitol record label and was the only top 40 hit for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band in the UK. It was taken from the gold-selling album Stranger in town, which peaked at number 31 in the UK albums chart in 1978. The single had been released on two previous occasions, as We’ve got tonite in 1979 and 1982, but had failed to enter the top 40.
Two other versions have entered the top 40. The first, by Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton, reached number 28 in 1983 and then Ronan Keating and Lulu took their recording to number 4 in 2002.
