Thirty years ago this week, Everything must change by Paul Young was at its highest position of number 9 in the UK singles chart for the third of five weeks, having entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 39. After falling from its peak position, the song dropped into the lower top 40 for the final two weeks of its chart life.

Everything must change was released on the CBS record label and was the fifth of seven UK top 10 hits for Paul Young. It was included on the double-platinum-selling album The secret of association, which spent one week at the top of the UK album chart in 1985. The single was certified silver in the UK and was a US number 1.
