Thirty years ago this week, Locomotion by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark reached its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 28 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 7 for a final week in the top 10. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.

Locomotion was released on the Virgin record label and was the fifth of seven UK top 10 hits for Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. It was taken from the gold-selling album Junk culture, which peaked at number 9 in the UK album chart.
