This week in 1984, Don’t tell me by Blancmange was at its highest position of number 8 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 32 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. After falling from its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for one more week, at number 9, and then spent the final three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Don’t tell me was released on the London record label and was the last of three UK top 10 hits for Blancmange. It was taken from the gold-selling album Mange tout, which peaked at number 8 in the UK album chart.
