Thirty years ago this week, Michael Caine by Madness reached its highest position of number 11 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 26. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another three weeks.
Michael Caine was released on the Stiff record label and was the eighteenth UK top 40 hit for Madness. It was taken from the silver-selling album Keep moving, which peaked at number 6 in the UK albums chart. The single featured vocals recorded by Michael Caine.
