Twenty years ago this week, The river of dreams by Billy Joel was at number 5 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 21 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at number 5, the song rose to its peak position of number 3 for one week and then spent another two weeks in the top 10. A further four weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
The river of dreams was released on the Columbia record label and was the last of five top 10 hits for Billy Joel in the UK. It was taken from a platinum-selling album of the same name that peaked at number 3 in the UK albums chart and was a US number 1.
