Forty years ago this week, Drive-in Saturday by David Bowie reached its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 16 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 10 for another two weeks. A further four weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Drive-in Saturday was released on the RCA record label and was the fourth top 10 hit for David Bowie in the UK. It was taken from the album Aladdin sane, which spent five weeks at the top of the UK album chart.
