This week in 1983, Love is a stranger by the Eurythmics reached its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 23. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 7 for a final week in the top 10. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.

Love is a stranger was released on the RCA record label and was the second of nine top 10 hits for the Eurythmics in the UK. It was taken from the platinum-selling album Sweet dreams (are made of this), which peaked at number 3 in the UK album chart. The single had first been released in November 1982 but had failed to enter the top 40, peaking at number 54.
