Thirty years ago this week, Church of the poison mind by Culture Club was at its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 9. After falling from its peak position, the song spent another two weeks in the top 10, then two more in the lower top 40, before leaving the chart.
Church of the poison mind was released on the Virgin record label and was the third of nine UK top 10 hits for Culture Club. It was the first track taken from the triple-platinum-selling album Colour by numbers, which spent five weeks at the top of the UK album chart later in 1983. The single was certified silver.
