These boots are made for walkin’ by Nancy Sinatra replaced Michelle by the Overlanders at the top of the UK singles chart this week in 1966. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 38 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later.
The song spent four weeks at number 1 and was succeeded by The sun ain’t gonna shine anymore by the Walker Brothers. After falling from the top spot, the record spent one more week in the top 10, at number 9, and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final six weeks of its chart life.
These boots are made for walkin’ was released on the Reprise record label and was the first of two UK number 1 hits for Nancy Sinatra. It was included on the album Boots, which reached number 12 in the UK albums chart later in 1966. The single was also a US number 1.
The song returned to the top 40 in 2005 when Jessica Simpson recorded a cover version. The single peaked at number 4.
