Fifty years ago this week, You were on my mind by Crispian St Peters reached its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 28 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but stayed in the top 10 for another three weeks, two of them in the top 5. A further four weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
You were on my mind was released on the Decca record label and was the first of two UK top 10 hits for Crispian St Peters. It was taken from the album Follow me, which did not enter the UK albums chart.
The original version of the song was recorded by Ian & Sylvia in 1964 for their album Northern journey.
