Fifty years ago this week, A must to avoid by Herman’s Hermits was at its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart for the second of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 six weeks previously at number 33 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. After two weeks at its peak position, the song fell to number 8 for a final week in the top 10 and then spent the last two weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
A must to avoid was released on the Columbia record label. It was the fourth of ten top 10 hits for Herman’s Hermits in the UK.
