Think Twice by Celine Dion replaced Cotton eye Joe by Rednex at the top of the UK singles chart twenty years ago this week. It had entered the top 40 twelve weeks previously at number 30 and broke into the top 10 four weeks later.
The song stayed at number 1 for seven weeks and then made way for Love can build a bridge by Cher, Chrissie Hynde and Neneh Cherry with Eric Clapton. After falling from the top spot, it stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, both of them in the top 5, and then spent the final four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Think twice was released on the Epic record label and was the first of two UK number 1 hits for Celine Dion. It was taken from the quintuple-platinum-selling album The colour of my love, which spent seven weeks at the top of the UK albums chart. The single was certified platinum.
