This week in 1995, Riverdance by Bill Whelan entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 9, having entered the top 40 six weeks previously at number 32. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 10 for a final week in the top 10. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Riverdance was released on the Son record label and was the only top 10 hit for Bill Whelan in the UK. It was written to accompany a dance performance during the interval of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest and was the inspiration for a stage show of the same name. The single was certified silver.
