Twenty years ago this week, Regulate by Warren G and Nate Dogg reached its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 9. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 10 for another six weeks. A further four weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Regulate was released on the Death Row record label and was the first of three UK top 10 hits for Warren G and the first of two for Nate Dogg. It was recorded for the film Above the rim and appeared on its soundtrack album. It was also included on Warren G’s silver-selling album Regulate… G funk era, which peaked at number 25 in the UK album chart.
