Thirty years ago this week, The longest time by Billy Joel reached its highest position of number 25 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 33. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another two weeks.
The longest time was released on the CBS record label and was the ninth of fourteen top 40 hits for Billy Joel in the UK. It was taken from the triple-platinum-selling album An innocent man, which peaked at number 2 in the UK album chart.
