This week in 1984, When you’re young and in love by the Flying Pickets entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 7, having entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 37. After two weeks at its peak position, the song fell to number 10 for a final week in the top 10. It then spent the last two weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
When you’re young and in love was released on the 10 record label and was the second of two top 10 hits for the Flying Pickets in the UK. It was taken from the silver-selling album Lost boys, which peaked at number 11 in the UK albums chart.
The first version of the song to enter the UK chart was a hit in 1967 when the Marvelettes took it to number 13.
