Thirty years ago this week, Somebody’s watching me by Rockwell was at its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart for the first of two weeks. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 30 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After two weeks at its peak position, the song fell to number 9 for a final week in the top 10 and then spent the last three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Somebody’s watching me was released on the Motown record label and was the only top 10 hit for Rockwell in the UK. It was taken from an album of the same name that failed to enter the UK album top 40, peaking at number 52. The single featured backing vocals by Michael and Jermaine Jackson.
In 2006, Beatfreakz released a version of the song sampling just the chorus. The single reached number 3.
