Fifty years ago this week, Then he kissed me by the Crystals was at number 10 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 eight weeks previously at number 22 and broke into the top 10 a week later. The song spent eight weeks in the top 10, two of them at its peak position of number 2, and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final four weeks of its chart life.
Then he kissed me was released on the London record label and was the second of two UK top 10 hits for the Crystals. The song returned to the top 40 in 1967 when the Beach Boys took a cover version, with an altered perspective and a title of Then I kissed her, to number 4.
