Moving On Up – M People

M People occupied the UK top 10 for five weeks in 1993 with this track.

Twenty years ago this week, Moving on up by M People reached its highest position of number 2 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 4. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 10 for another three weeks. A further four weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.

Moving on up was released on the Deconstruction record label and was the third of ten UK top 10 hits for M People. It was taken from the triple-platinum-selling album Elegant slumming, which peaked at number 2 in the UK albums chart.
