Twenty years ago this week, Higher ground by UB40 entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 8. The song stayed at its peak position for three weeks and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final four weeks of its chart life.
Higher ground was released on the DEP International record label and was the sixteenth of seventeen UK top 10 hits for UB40. It was taken from the double-platinum-selling album Promises and lies, which spent seven weeks at the top of the UK albums chart.
