Lose yourself by Eminem replaced If you’re not the one by Daniel Bedingfield at the top of the UK singles chart ten years ago this week in its first week in the top 40. It was succeeded at number 1 by Sorry seems to be the hardest word by Blue featuring Elton John after just one week.
After falling from the top spot, the song lingered in the top 10 for another twelve weeks, five of them in the top 5. The record finally left the top 10 in March 2003 and then spent the final five weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Lose yourself was released on the Interscope record label and was the fourth chart-topping hit for Eminem in the UK. It was taken from the soundtrack album of the film 8 mile and won the 2002 Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song was certified silver in the UK and was also a US number 1.
