This week in 1967, In the country by Cliff Richard and the Shadows reached its highest position of number 6 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 five weeks previously at number 36 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 10 for a final week in the top 10. A further two weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
In the country was released on the Columbia record label and was the thirty-second UK top 10 hit for Cliff Richard and the thirty-ninth for the Shadows. It was taken from the album Cinderella, which peaked at number 30 in the UK albums chart.
