Forever and ever by Slik replaced Mamma mia by ABBA at the top of the UK singles chart this week in 1976. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 39 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later.
The song stayed at number 1 for just one week and was succeeded by December, 1963 (oh, what a night) by the Four Seasons. After falling from the top spot, the record spent another three weeks in the top 10, two of them in the top 5, and then fell to number 22 for a final week in the chart.
Forever and ever was released on the Bell record label and was the only UK number 1 hit for Slik. It was included on the band’s eponymous debut album, which peaked at number 58 in the UK albums chart later in 1976. The single was certified gold.
