Twenty years ago this week, I’ll be there for you – You’re all I need to get by by Method Man featuring Mary J Blige entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 10. After one week in the top 10, the song slipped into the lower top 40 for the final two weeks of its chart life.
I’ll be there for you – You’re all I need to get by was released on the Def Jam record label and was the first of two UK top 10 hits for Method Man and the first of seven for Mary J Blige. The song mixed Method Man’s All I need, from his gold-selling album Tical, with You’re all I need to get by, which was originally a number 19 hit for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in 1968.
