This week in 1995, Big yellow taxi by Amy Grant reached its highest position of number 20 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 29. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another three weeks.
Big yellow taxi was released on the A&M record label and was the last of three top 40 hits for Amy Grant in the UK. It was taken from the album House of love, which did not enter the UK albums chart.
The original version of the song was written and recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970 when it reached number 11 in the UK chart. A cover version by Counting Crows featuring Vanessa Carlton peaked at number 16 in 2003.
