This week in 1995, Sympathy for the devil by Guns ‘N’ Roses entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 9. After one week at its peak position, the song dropped out of the top 10 and spent the final four weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Sympathy for the devil was released on the Geffen record label and was the last of twelve top 10 hits for Guns ‘N’ Roses in the UK. It was recorded for the film Interview with the vampire and appeared on its soundtrack album.
The original version of the song was recorded by the Rolling Stones in 1968 for the album Beggars banquet, which peaked at number 3 in the UK album chart. A remixed version of the song was released by the Rolling Stones in 2003 when it reached number 14.
