Sixty years ago this week, The little shoemaker by Petula Clark was at number 9 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 12 five weeks previously at number 12 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. The song spent a total of six week in the top 10, including two non-consecutive weeks at its peak position of number 7, and then dropped to number 12 for the final two weeks of its chart life.
The little shoemaker was released on the Polygon record label and was the first UK top 10 hit for Petula Clark. It was based on the French song Le petit cordonnier.
