Forty years ago this week, The ‘in’ crowd by Bryan Ferry reached its highest position of number 13 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 26. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another two weeks.
The ‘in’ crowd was released on the Island record label and was the second of sixteen UK top 40 hits for Bryan Ferry. It was taken from the gold-selling album Another time, another place, which peaked at number 4 in the UK album chart.
The original version of the song was recorded by Dobie Gray in 1964. The single reached number 25 in the UK singles chart in 1965.
