It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 18 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After falling from its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for one more week, at number 9, and then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final three weeks of its chart life.
Let’s hear it for the boy was released on the CBS record label and was the last of four top 10 hits for Deniece Williams in the UK. It was taken from an album of the same name that did not enter the UK album chart and also appeared on the soundtrack album of the film Footloose. The single was certified silver in the UK and was a US number 1.
