Thirty years ago this week, Dancing with tears in my eyes by Ultravox reached its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 29 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 6 for a final week in the top 10 and then spent the last three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Dancing with tears in my eyes was released on the Chrysalis record label and was the last of three UK top 10 hits for Ultravox. It was taken from the gold-selling album Lament, which peaked at number 8 in the UK album chart.
