Thirty years ago this week, Wood beez (pray like Aretha Franklin) by Scritti Politti entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 10, having entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 38. After one week in the top 10, the song slipped into the lower top 40 for the final three weeks of its chart life.

Wood beez (pray like Aretha Franklin) was released on the Virgin record label and was the first of two UK top 10 hits for Scritti Politti. It was included on the gold-selling album Cupid and psyche 85, which reached number 5 in the UK album chart in 1985.
