This week in 1984, Jump by Van Halen reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart in its fourth week in the top 40 and second in the top 10. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 10 for a final week in the top 10. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Jump was released on the Warner Brothers record label and was the first of two UK top 10 hits for Van Halen. It was taken from the gold-selling album 1984, which peaked at number 15 in the UK album chart. The single was a US number 1.
The song has entered the UK chart on two other occasions. In 1993, Van Halen recorded a live version that reached number 26 and Bus Stop released a cover version in 1999 that peaked at number 23.
