Thirty years ago this week, An innocent man by Billy Joel was at its highest position of number 8 in the UK singles chart for the last of three weeks. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 28. After three weeks in the top 10, the song slipped into the lower top 40 for the final four weeks of its chart life.
An innocent man was released on the CBS record label and was the third of five top 10 hits for Billy Joel in the UK. It was taken from a triple-platinum-selling album of the same name that peaked at number 2 in the UK album chart. The single was certified silver.
