Devil Gate Drive by Suzi Quatro replaced Tiger feet by Mud at the top of the UK singles chart this week in 1974. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 14 and broke into the top 10 a week later.
The song spent two weeks at number 1 and then made way for Jealous mind by Alvin Stardust. After falling from the top spot, the record stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, one of them in the top 5, and then spent the final three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Devil Gate Drive was released on the RAK record label and was the second of two number 1 hits for Suzi Quatro in the UK. It was included on the album Quatro, which failed to enter the UK chart. The single was certified gold.
