Twenty years ago this week, The perfect year by Dina Carroll reached its highest position of number 5 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 14 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 6 for a final week in the top 10 and then spent the last three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
The perfect year was released on the A&M record label and was the third of four UK top 10 hits for Dina Carroll. It was included on the platinum-selling album Only human, which peaked at number 2 in the UK albums chart in 1996. The single was certified silver.
