This week in 1983, Hold me now by the Thompson Twins reached its highest position of number 4 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 31 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but stayed in the top 10 for another five weeks. It then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final four weeks of its chart life.
Hold me now was released on the Arista record label and was the third of five top 10 hits for the Thompson Twins in the UK. It was the first track taken from the double-platinum-selling album Into the gap, which spent three weeks at the top of the UK albums chart in 1984. The single was certified gold.
