Twenty years ago this week, Long train runnin’ by the Doobie Brothers reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 10. After one week at its peak position, the song spent the final five weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.
Long train runnin’ was released on the Warner Brothers record label and was the only top 10 hit for the Doobie Brothers in the UK. It was a remix of a track included on the album The captain and me, which failed to enter the UK albums chart in 1973. The first version of the song to enter the top 40 was a cover version by Bananarama that peaked at number 30 in 1991.
