This week in 1963, Sugar and spice by the Searchers was at number 3 in the UK singles chart, having peaked at number 2 the week before. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 29 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at number 3, the song slipped to number 6 for a final week in the top 10. A further six weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Sugar and spice was released on the Pye record label. It was the second of six UK top 10 hits for the Searchers.
