This week in 1983, Thriller by Michael Jackson entered the UK top 10 at its highest position of number 10, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 24. After just one week in the top 10, the song dropped into the lower top 40 for the final ten weeks of its chart life.

Thriller was released on the Epic record label and was the fifteenth top 10 hit for Michael Jackson in the UK. It was the final track taken from an album of the same name that spent eight weeks at the top of the UK album chart and was certified platinum eleven times. The album was also a US number 1 and the single was certified silver in the UK.

The song has entered the top 40 on two other occasions. It was re-issued in 2008 to mark its 25th anniversary and reached number 35. Then, following Jackson’s death in 2009, the single re-entered the chart and peaked at number 12.
