Thirty years ago this week, Thank you for the music by ABBA entered the UK singles chart at number 33. This was the highest position the song achieved as it fell to number 34 a week later for a final week in the top 40.
Thank you for the music was released on the CBS record label and was the twenty-fifth UK top 40 hit for ABBA. It was taken from the platinum-selling album ABBA: the album, which spent seven weeks at the top of the UK album chart in 1978. This 1983 single was released to promote a gold-selling album of the same name that peaked at number 17 in the UK album chart.
In 1999, the song was featured in a medley called Thank ABBA for the music performed by Steps, Tina Cousins, Cleopatra, B*witched and Billie. The single peaked at number 4.
