Thirty years ago this week, Never never by the Assembly reached its highest position of number 4 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 36 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but stayed in the top 40 for another two weeks. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Never never was released on the Mute record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for the Assembly. The single was certified silver.
