I love you love me love by Gary Glitter entered the UK singles chart at number 1 this week in 1973, replacing Daydreamer / The puppy song by David Cassidy. It held on to the top spot for four weeks and then made way for Merry Xmas everybody by Slade.

After falling from the top of the chart, the song stayed in the top 10 for another five weeks, four of them in the top 3, and was still there at the beginning of 1974. A further five weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.

I love you love me love was released on the Bell record label and was the second of three UK number 1 hits for Gary Glitter. The single was certified platinum.
